At NATO headquarters in Brussels Daniel Speckhard is responsible for political relations with the countries of Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the former SovietUnion and the Mediterranean. A former U.S. Ambassador to Belarus from 1997 to 2000, Speckhard received the NATO Service Medal for his work in support of crisis management in Macedonia. He has also served as an advisor and director of policy and resources for the deputy secretary of state and has held a number of other assignments, including at the International Affairs Division of the White House Office of Management and Budget, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the staff of the U.S. Senate, and in state and local government.
