Myra Marx Ferree is Professor of Sociology and the Director of the Center for German and European Studies at the UW-Madison. She has a PhD from Harvard University and has published widely. Her book (co-authored), Shaping Abortion Discourse: Democracy and the Public Sphere in Germany and the United States (Cambridge University Press, 2002) won the best book award from the American Sociological Association. The recipient of numerous awards and grants, Professor Marx Ferree’s current research interests include the uses of culture for social movements as well as the outcomes of movements on cultures. Her greatest interest is in feminist strategies and organizations.
