Christine Fauré holds a PhD in Sociology and is Director of Research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (C.N.R.S.), Paris, as well as a member of the Centre de recherches politiques at the Sorbonne. Her publications include: Mai 68 jour et nuit (Paris, Découvertes Gallimard, 1998 and 2004), Ce que déclarer des droits veut dire: histoires (Paris, P.U.F., 1997), and La Démocratie sans les femmes, essai sur le libéralisme en France (1985; Translated into English as Democracy without women, feminism and the rise of liberal individualism in France [Indiana University Press, 1991]), and the edited volume Political and Historical Encyclopedia of Women (Routledge, 2003).
