Wolfgang Drautz was trained as a lawyer in Germany and also studied at the École Nationale d´Administration, Paris. He entered the German foreign service in 1976 and has served in cities throughout Europe and the U.S., including Bonn, Moscow, Brussels, Berlin, London, and Atlanta. Most recently, Mr. Drautz was part of the Science Department at the German Embassy in London (1998 to 2002), and Head of Department for Consular Assistance at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin (2002 to 2005). He took up his position as Consul General in Chicago in September, 2005.
