Professor Colwill is a cultural historian who has taught extensively on feminist thought, women in modern
European history, the
history of sexuality, and the history of the body. Her
research interests concern the intersecting histories of
gender, sexuality, slavery, and colonialism in France
and the Caribbean. She is currently working on a monograph entitled "The Empire of Ritual: Sex, Savagery, and Slavery in the French and Haitian Revolutions."
