The lecture will present narratives by contemporary Scandinavian writers
of migrant backgrounds and discuss them as cultural represetations of
the changing societies, concurrent with the immigration of the last
three or four decades. These texts deal with cultural encounters and
integration processes, with questions of identity and location, and they
challenge or expand the literary canon in the respective Nordic
countries. In a way, one can say that they rewrite what it means to be
Danish, Norwegian and Swedish.
