Her duties include the analysis of major commodity markets of the European Union, Central and Eastern Europe, and the New Independent States. Her recent research has included issues of EU enlargement and a comparison of rural policies in the U.S.A. and the EU. She develops short and long term forecasts of production, consumption and trade in the region for commodities of interest to US agribusiness. She is also Associate Editor of the ERS flagship publication, Amber Waves. In addition, she serves as Project manager for ERS technical assistance projects in Central and Eastern Europe; current projects are in Serbia and Montenegro and previous projects were carried out in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. She has published and participated in national and international fora on a wide range of global agricultural issues. Apart from her activities as an economist, in which discipline she received an MA at George Mason University, she holds a PhD in linguistics and Slavic Languages from the University of Texas, Austin, and a BA in philosophy from Reed College.
