Justice Danelius is a distinguished European jurist. He gave one of the plenary speeches in August, 2002 at the 11th World Conference of the International Society of Family Law in Oslo, Norway. He has just completed a term on the Supreme Court of Sweden (1988-2001). He received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Stockholm University in 1988.

He has been active in human rights issues. He was a member of the European Commission of Human Rights from 1983-1999. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture 1983 - 88 and has written about the United Nations Convention against Torture.

He has been a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague since 1982. He served as Justice of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina 1996-2002.

He served as a member of the Swedish Delegation to the United Nations General Assembly (1972-74 and 1979-83).
